Alain Parthoens


Alain Parthoens has been instrumental in the formation of Promethera® in 2009 as the first lead investor during his time at Vesalius Biocapital. As a member of the Executive Committee and Director of the Board at Promethera, he today represents this early group of Belgian and European investors, including the Walloon region and the Belgian sovereign fund via Fund+ investment fund.

Alain has more than twenty years of international experience in food and life sciences businesses such as Nestle, Monsanto/Searle, PWC.  Furthermore, he has 15 years of experience in venture capital (ING Bank, Vesalius Biocapital and more recently Newton Biocapital).  He led 30 investments in early and neglected late-stage companies.  He was a Director at Ogeda and is currently a Director at Profibrix, Voluntis, NCardia (ex-Pluriomics), Epics Therapeutics and Promethera® Biosciences.  He is the former Chairman of the BVA and member of the Invest Europe VC council.

Alain holds an MSc in agronomy and specialty biochemistry from the Université Catholique de Louvain, an MSc in finance and computer sciences from the Université Libre de Bruxelles as well as a management degree from the Solvay Business School (CEPAC).
